I started playing piano when I was five years old, on my grandmother's 6'6" Steinway. My grandmother, Ruth Van Buren Nelson, was a professional pianist and organist who passed far too young. My mothered inherited her piano in 1956 and that's what I grew up with; that piano remains in the family today.

Anywhere I go, if there's a piano, I play. My favorite is the 7' Steinway at the Musical Instrument Museum in Scottsdale AZ; perhaps the worst is the battered old upright at the Vulture Mine near Wickenburg AZ, which probably hasn't been tuned since before I was born.
I usually play solo, but occasionally play with local bands. I also play most Sundays for Unity Church of Prescott, 145 S. Arizona. See below for upcoming performances.
