I started playing piano when I was five years old, on my grandmother's 6'6" Steinway. My grandmother, Ruth Van Buren Nelson, was a professional pianist and organist who passed far too young. My mothered inherited her piano in 1956 and that's what I grew up with; that piano remains in the family today.

Anywhere I go, if there's a piano, I play. My favorite is the 7' Steinway at the Musical Instrument Museum in Scottsdale AZ; perhaps the worst is the battered old upright at the Vulture Mine near Wickenburg AZ, which probably hasn't been tuned since before I was born.
I often play solo, but belong to two local bands. Aspen Creek Band does light rock and lots of country music. All That Jazz Trio does, well you can guess, mostly jazz. I also play 2 or 3 Sundays a month for Unity Church of Prescott. See below for upcoming performances.
